A personal centrifuge or microcentrifuge, sometimes referred to as a mini centrifuge, is designed to spin small tubes rangeing in size from 0.2 ml up to 2.0 ml. The microcentrifuge pictured here is accompanied with interchangeable PCR rotor.

 

More and more tests these days are being performed with smaller sample sizes. This means the equipment used can also be downsized, taking up less bench space and allowing lab equipment to be located closer to the technician.
